Iran bans 'feminist' films

by Jess McCabe // 21 October 2005, 12:07

'Feminist' and pro-American films are to be banned in Iran, in an edict handed down by an Islamic thinktank headed up by hardline president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

IranMania reports that the ban effects "the distribution and screening of foreign films which promote secular, feminist, liberal or nihilist ideas and degrade oriental culture".

Hollywood films currently screening in Iran's cinemas include censored cuts of Skycaptain and the World of Tomorrow, The Others and The Aviator.
