16 days of activism - South Essex Rape and Incest Crisis Centre

More awareness raising from Lilith: day five of the 16 days of activism against violence against women focuses on SERICC:

“Since 1984 SERICC has provided a confidential, independent and specialist women only sexual violence support, advocacy and counselling service for women and girls over the age of 13, who have experienced sexual violence at any time in their lives. Counselling and advocacy both on the telephone and face-to-face is free for women and girls who live in Thurrock, Basildon, Brentwood, Billericay and Wickford. For some women and girls, using the telephone helpline is the first step to talking about what has happened in their lives. We also offer information and support to callers who are supporting a partner, friend, family member or work colleague who has experienced sexual violence.

“‘One to one’ counselling sessions can be arranged by calling the helpline number. Counselling at the SERICC office can be short or long term as requested, Monday to Saturday and is by appointment only (childcare can be provided on request for ‘one to one’ counselling sessions). Alternate premises can be used in Basildon and Brentwood. SERICC encourages self- referrals wherever possible but we also accept referrals from other agencies if this makes it easier for women and girls to access our services.

“To support SERICC today:

“Raise awareness of sexual violence. Women are silenced if we don\x92t talk about it. Keep the need for support services on the agenda.
