Met Police continue drive against Domestic Violence

I was pleased to see the new campaign against domestic violence on the tube this morning. The police have been proactive on this issue during 2005, and this new campaign shows that they continue to take the issue seriously.

The posters are in a myth/reality format, pointing out that what some men think of as a ‘bit of a slap’ is domestic violence. They make clear that, due to recent changes in the law, the police can prosecute perpetrators even when the victim will not make a statement or give evidence in court.

Domestic violence is widespread and extremely serious - two women are murdered by their partners or ex-partners every week in the UK, and over a quarter of London murders are domestic homicides.

You can see details of the campaign here.
