Harman to debate equality

Harriet Harman, the Consitutitional Affairs Minister, and the woman behind the latest set of proposals to end the pay gap, is to speak at a debate on gender equality.

Harman will give a keynote lecture, to be followed by a panel debate chaired by the president of the Fawcett Society Jenni Murray.

Unfortunately for me, the debate takes part during working hours on a weekday (2-4pm, 12 September). But if you can make it, head down to the Atlee Suite, Portcullis House, Westminster and they’ll even throw in a free sandwich lunch.

The lecture, and presumably the debate, will cover:

\xB7 What should be the vision of gender equality driving the policy agenda?

\xB7 How can policy deliver to a diversity of women\x92s needs across areas such as education, employment and health?

\xB7 Where are the gaps and what action would it take to fill these?

\xB7 How can politics re-engage women as voters and potential candidates?

\xB7 Are men included as a focus for policy and as partners in delivering change?

\xB7 How do the visions of government, business, the voluntary sector and individuals compare, and how should they partner to deliver this ambitious agenda?

If you want to attend, contact the Fawcett Society by 5 September, either by email at petronela.sasurova@fawcettsociety.org.uk or by phone at 020 7253 2598.
