French feminists fight stoning advocate

by Jess McCabe // 28 September 2006, 22:14

The French feminist group Regards de femmes is calling for the government to refuse permission for a scholar to enter the country, because he supports death by stoning as a punishment for adulterous women.

According to wire reports, Hani Ramadan has been employed to teach at a centre for Islamic studies and Arabic in the city of Lyon.

The group has started a petition, which can be read on its website by French speakers. The petition has been signed by several former ministers.
