Palestinian feminist to speak in London

by Jess McCabe // 18 September 2006, 20:29

If you're in London looking for something to do next Friday, you could do worse than to head over to Stoke Newington to listen to Palestinian activist Rauda Morcos speak.

Morcos founded Aswat, the Palestinian feminist lesbian organisation. It sounds like the organisation is doing some fabulous work:

Through Aswat's programming, women are able to discuss our gender and sexuality, define and redefine multiple forms of feminism, and address conflicts between national and gender identities, as Palestinians living inside Israel and in the occupied territories. Aswat's group provides a safe space for Palestinian women who identify themselves as lesbians, bi-sexual, transsexual, transgender or inter-sexual.

It's a real grass roots organisation - and it's small (only 20 Palestinian women use its online forum), but it's a start.
