Experts recommend vaccinating all teens against STIs

by Jess McCabe // 21 March 2007, 22:25

All teenagers should be inoculated against the human papilloma virus (HPV), a sexually transmitted disease which causes cervical cancer, according to specialists quoted in an Independent story

The vaccine should be bundled up with five others in a comprehensive programme aimed at adolescents, the experts say.

Teenagers should also be inoculated against Hepatitis B, chickenpox, whooping cough and four strands of meningitis. A sixth vaccine, against herpes, another common sexually transmitted infection, is also close to being licensed and could be included in a universal programme, the Independent reports.
