Holestar

by Jess McCabe // 4 March 2007, 11:29

How much of our femininity and masculinity is performance? Holly explored this question a little at a drag king workshop a few years ago. But here's a new spin on it, and what sounds like a fantastic night out as well:

Holestar is a queer gender bending woman and premieres her first solo revue showcase in London 'It Ain't What You Do, It's The Way That You Do It' on March 14th 2007 at Trannyshack-Soho Revue, 11 Walkers Court, London, W1F 0ED

The show will premiere new track 'Show me Your Banana', previous material and debut of a new concept mixing up audio samples from film, TV, adverts and music to create an entertaining stage show by making performance art accessible and fun.

Holestar is a real woman who takes on the guise of a Drag Queen, therefore a Drag Goddess or as she likes to say a 'Tranny with a Fanny'. She is often compared to San Francisco's 'Faux Queens' yet states, "I'm not fake anything darling!" and has appeared extensively around Europe for the past four years as a visual mixed media artist, vocalist, bootleg performer, DJ (electro, bootlegs/mash ups, remixes, pop and rave), Mistress of Ceremonies and Dominatrix.

Trannyshack in San Francisco is a lot of fun. I've never been to the London version, but I would suspect it's more of the same.
