Buffy actor disappoints even more…

So, yesterday we heard saw that Sarah Michelle Gellar posed for Maxim. Today, Feministing brings us yet more depressing news: she has changed her name to Sarah Michelle Prinze as an anniversay present to her husband.

USmagazine.com has more:

A source close to the 30-year-old star tells Us Weekly,”She officially changed her name to Sarah Michelle Prinze” in honor of the occasion.

“On their anniversary, she showed [Freddie] her new driver’s license,” the source tells Us. “It was so sweet.”

I do feel a bit bad for SMG SMP, because taking on this fabulous role of Buffy the Vampire Slayer has certainly raised our collective expectations. But, as Feministing points out, there is a weirdness about giving away your name as a gift.

It doesn’t strike me as weird to change your name of your own accord, even several years into the marriage. But framing it as a “gift” makes it seem like a sacrifice rather than something she wanted to do for herself. Kind of like the difference between “I got a boob job because I wanted one” and “I got a boob job for my husband’s birthday.”
