Joss Whedon is to film a new TV show with Eliza Dushku (who played Faith on Buffy), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The self-proclaimed feminist who created both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly has nabbed a seven episode commitment to the new series from Fox.

Dollhouse will be about “a group of men and women who are imprinted with different personalities for different assignments. In between tasks they are mind-wiped, living like children in Dollhouse, a futuristic dorm/lab.” Dushku plays Echo, one of the group who begins to get her memory back.

OK, the premise sounds terrible, but at least we know to expect some brilliant script writing and brilliant female characters.

“Joss has been my favorite friend, genius, ally and confidant in the business since I was 17,” said Dushku, who also will serve as a producer on the project. “It’s incredible how much energy and excitement I have for this; I can’t wait to be this Echo character.”

Unfortunately, the deal has only just been struck - and Whedon hasn’t even started writing the show - so it could be a while before Dollhouse reaches the small screen in the UK.

Broadcast networks had been pursuing Whedon for years, but he had been focused on features.

“It was a really welcomed surprise,” Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly said of getting Whedon’s pitch for “Dollhouse.”

Let’s just hope they don’t cancel it after one season, like Firefly, then.
