Volunteering to teach English at Kalayaan

Learning English is crucial for Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs) in order that they can gain some independence from their employers, improve their job prospects, learn about their rights and have some time for personal development. Many of the workers who come to Kalayaan have very little time off and few opportunities to meet friends and build up support networks in the UK. Attending a regular English class is a chance to become part of a group and meet other workers in similar situations.

Kalayaan is looking for volunteers to teach English classes on Sundays. These classes will target MDWs who have arrived relatively recently in the UK and so are not eligible for college run classes. Kalayaan will cover all travel expenses.

If you might be interested please email us on info[at]kalayaan.org.uk , or call 020 7243 2942 and ask to speak with Kate or Jenny.

We are also still recruiting for a Community Support Worker. This is maternity cover for a full time paid post. The deadline is this Friday 8th Feb! Go to www.kalayaan.org.uk for more information on this post.
