Celebrate the small stuff no matter how temporary

John Kampfner has resigned from the editorship of the New Statesman. This is not what I am celebrating. What is worth celebrating, no matter how little significance the Guardian gives it*, is that Sue Matthias, deputy editor, is taking over for now. Yes a woman editing a major weekly “serious” news periodical. That’s a V-Day thing too celebrate!
* At least their coverage is better than Sky News who rather insulting say:
Deputy editor Sue Matthias will take charge of the New Statesman until a successor for Mr Kampfner is found.
From Sky News
Because, of course, Ms Matthias can’t be considered a successor despite her years of experience at the New Statesman, Independent and AOL News, can she?
