Charlie’s Angles…
By Jess McCabe | 29 March 2008, 11:33
Jessica Hynes is not pleased that Charlie’s Angels director ‘McG’ has been entrusted with the task of making an American version of the comedy Spaced, which she helped create with Simon Pegg and starred in as Daisy. It turns out that neither Hynes nor Pegg were consulted about the decision to do a US remake.
In an ‘official statement’ quoted on Daily Pop, Hynes explains:
It might make everyone feel better to know that I am planning a counter attack; A British re-make of ‘Charlies Angels’ called ‘Charlies Angles’ - about three female architects who love to design buildings make biscuits, and wear button up cardigans. That’s gonna hurt you Mc.G huh?- a remake of one of YOUR films with no titties?? Huh??! HUH!!!
If only. You can watch episode one of Spaced on YouTube:

I have never understood the need to 'remake' British Comedy for the American market. Never.
But since they're doing it, how about we remake Sex and The City. I suggest we move them to Manchester. Where the rain can ruin their Manolos.

Urgh.
Spaced is one of the best tv shows ever and this upsets me greatly.
And why remake it now? A lot of Spaced is comedy of it's time. Take away the britishness and context it was set it and it wont make sense at all!

Hang on. Do we KNOW that McG plans to replace Daisy and Tim with supermodels? Has any statement been made as to how he will be translating the aesthetic of the show? Can we at least find out what McG is planning to do before we condemn him, as deplorable his previous work (on Charlie's Angels, Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll and various music videos) might have been.
