Today is No Smoking Day

Here is a link to the No Smoking Day website.

If you’ve decided to quit today, good luck and I hope you’re successful.

That’s all I’m going to say on it. No lectures, no moralising, no preaching - and certainly no born-again non-smoker’s evangelism ;)

Thank you.

I gave up smoking five years ago after ten years of puffing and one thing that really really helped was: Don't Tell Anyone. That way it's just between you and you. No cheerleading. No 'Oh Well Done' which when you're feeling pissed off anyway, makes you want to thump the person who said it. I muttered something about 'cutting down' when asked directly but that was it.

I also used nicotine patches. But if I were giving up now I'd try Zyban (sp?) It's amazing the number of people who go all Victorian Auntie over zyban and patches saying: 'Oh I couldn't put that into my body'. Even though they're filling their body with a cancerous concoction on a daily basis.

But the main thing is - don't announce it. Good luck!

The problem with Zyban is that it's not to be trifled with - as a multiple reuptake inhibitor it has far too many side effects for the purpose of giving up smoking.. I'm not anti-drugs [or anti-smoking] however it is a powerful drug.. and one that is perhaps out of proportion to nicotine withdrawal - as unpleasant as that is.
