‘Adopt a Clitoris’
Clitoraid’s ‘adopt a clitoris’ campaign is coming from a good place: the idea is to help pay for women who have been subjected to female genital mutilation to get reconstructive surgery. (Although it’s certainly not the best campaign name in the world. The word adoption is a bit patronising - a woman’s clitoris is not a panda, people!)
However, as Boing Boing points out, the charity has been set up by an “alien clone sex cult leader” and may be a money-making enterprise.
If you want to get active in helping to stop FGM, I would suggest donating to Forward instead. You can help in non-monetary ways as well.
