Profiles for the Women's Movement

by Louise Livesey // 28 April 2008, 09:19

The Guardian has profiled Carmen Callil who founded the Virago Press.

Carmen Callil set up Virago to publish books that celebrated women - and dreamt of shelves of green paperbacks all over the world. The Modern Classics list gave voice to generations of novelists who might have been forgotten - three decades later it is as important as ever.

Meanwhile the Women's International Perspective profiles John Stoltenberg, Andrea Dworkin's life-partner and author of (amongst other things) Refusing to be a Man and The End of Manhood. Stoltenberg is also the man behind the US campaign My Strength Is Not For Hurting offering high school males a new way of being.
