Hillary Clinton appointed US Secretary of State

US President-elect Barack Obama has announced that Hillary Clinton will take the role of Secretary of State under his administration. As a vocal supporter of women’s rights nationally and internationally, Clinton should help reverse the Bush administration’s pitiful record on foreign policy related to women’s rights and development worldwide.
In particular, it is hoped that the new administration will end the so-called global gag rule which prevents any international family planning groups which receive US funding from advising women on abortion. Fingers crossed…
