Especially ironic as what one of the things Labour has done effectively is increase female representation in parliament.

From my understanding of the story the MPs that spent their expenses on women's clothing were male, and probably not trans, and so the implication is that they were bought for other people. The problem here is not sexism but just far too little information given by Newsbeat.

Hi Simon,
My problem was with Newsbeat's phrasing - they assumed that listeners would interpret 'MPs' as 'male MPs'. I'm not saying that was a conscious thing, just one of those little moments when you realise that we still see male as the default gender.
