Curriculum Reform Consultation

by Laura Woodhouse // 22 July 2009, 09:44

Womankind Worldwide is encouraging people to respond to the government's curriculum reform consultation on Personal, Social, Health and Economic education (PSHE). A recent review recommends that this be made a compulsory part of the curriculum, while indicating that parents would still be able to remove their children from the Sex and Relationships sections of the course (helpful).

Womankind point out that this is an excellent opportunity to get lessons on healthy relationships, gender stereotypes and violence against women into the school curriculum. Apparently there have already been 16,000 negative responses, so if you think making PSHE a compulsory part of the curriculum is important I'd get to it! Here's what you do:

1. Follow this link and sign on.

2. Then you are sent a link to the consultation, there are a whole list of all the different consultations. Click on the link for Personal social health economic education.

3. Press begin

4. The most important bit to ‘strongly agree’ to is the first question on making PSHE a statutory subject

5. The rest is up to you…
