Old Girls to be performed in Glasgow

by Jess McCabe // 24 August 2009, 10:40

A new play by Zoë Strachan will be performed at Òran Mór in Glasgow, as part of its lunchtime theatre programme "a play, a pie and a pint":

Old Girls
Thelma and Louise for the nursing home generation . . .

Sadie and Mabel are in their eighties, and they feel their lives are under threat. After decades of friendship, Mabel’s imminent move to a care home is about to split them up for good. Emboldened by desperate circumstances, they hatch a plan that could rescue their relationship and show the world that being old doesn’t mean being past it. Mabel’s grandson Stephen has his own problems, but can he stop the two women before they go too far?

Monday 31 August to Saturday 5 September 2009
Doors open 12 midday (Monday 12.30pm), play begins at 1pm

Tickets are available on the day from the box office or in advance from ticketweb (or call 08444 771 000) at a cost of Monday/Tuesday/Thursday £10, Wednesday £7, Friday/Saturday £12 (this includes a meat or vegetarian pie and a choice of drink)

Via the Glasgow Women's Library, who note that they're hosting a reading on 14 October, where "women writers at all levels of experience come together to read their work around positive attitudes towards ageing. So often the media presents a bleak, negative view of growing older, whereas we want to show that experience counts."
