Check out this powerful poetry slam performance by Katie Makkai, indicting the beauty imperative and its hollow, reductive joylessness.

absolutely love this. Printed out a transcript for my National Poetry Day display at the library where I work, got quite a few women reading it looking thoughtful.

This turned up on my Youtube recommendations a couple of weeks ago and I loved, favourited and linked it to my Facebook friends immediately. I've watched it countless times since and it never stops being awe-inspiringly amazing in a way that "awe-inspiringly amazing" doesn't really do it enough justice.
Everybody should be encouraged to spread this video as much as they can.

Oh-My-God. There are no more words left. I am speechless. So much power and so much meaning in so few words...
Thanks for sharing!

I love this, have tweeted and facebooked it.
I also reccomend Ani Di Franco's 'not a pretty girl' (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSxArgJb33Y) which I also love and deals with the same sort of issues.
