Female assassins all the rage in Hollywood?

In Haywire, Gina Carano plays an assassin whose employers decide to terminate her. An extremely original plot? Perhaps not, but it still looks like one to watch out for, based on the trailer (below).
Incidentally, Carano is a mixed martial artist and used to be a Gladiator.
There seems to be a mini-spate of awesome action films starring women in recent years (Hanna and Salt spring to mind). Hollywood Reporter notes that the plot is also startlingly similar to the forthcoming Colombiana.
Here are the trailers for the two movies:

Columbiana may also be familiar to anyone familiar with DC Comics' character Huntress.
And if anyone isn't, I highly recommed Ivory Madison's Huntress: Year One

I second the recc for Huntress year one. Great story. And now I'm kinda interested in Columbiana.

And if you will permit me to provide a link here, (and I fully understand if the moderators don't allow this through), I reviewed Huntress year one here:

Ivory Madison is a greta writer who argued with the pencillers on the book in order for them to reduce the breast size of the characters. She's got a great appraoch to writing and she's not afraid to write a heroine as feminist.
If Columbiana is anything like this then I'm interested. It would be nice to watch a female led action movie in which the star isn;t sexed up and is actually good at they do. I can't just watch Alien all the time.. (maybe I can...!!)
