Close-up picture of two vintage wooden-framed abacuses, one in front of the other. Each row of beads is a different colour.A day late and a dollar short again... Here's this week's open thread for discussion and our regular round-up of some of the articles and blogs we've noticed over the last week or so, but not had time to post about.

If you have a link or comment that doesn't fit anywhere else and would like to share it, feel free to drop it in the comments here.

This week's closing video is a nice, sunny (if a little abstract) piece of music called "Moonshake", from the 1973 album Future Days, by one of my all-time favourite bands, Can. Crank up the volume, open the windows and... what d'you mean it's started raining? ;)
