New feature: A tale of two cities

Hannah Brock was living in Israel/Palestine. She used the opportunity to visit Tel Aviv, the country’s most liberal and buzzing city. It is also to most LGBT-friendly city in Israel.

Tel Aviv is not typical of Israel (earlier this year Jerusalem held its 10th Pride, but it was hit with protests from the right-wing. This was an improvement on the violence of the early years.)

Nonetheless, it has become a tourist destination for LGB people, and advertises itself as such. But organisations such as Palestinian Queers for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions argue that international visitors should forego holidays there.

Hannah’s piece looks at both sides of the equation, and although she doesn’t come to a definitive conclusion, the views of the people she speaks to are enlightening.
