personalities. This anonymity has gotten us international attention. Guerrilla Girls On Tour creates comedies that focus on the history of women, specifically on the history of women in world theatre. We use ensemble techniques drawn from vaudeville and physical theatre using music, movement and parody to make our pieces entertaining, informative and empowering. We

Website Address: http://www.kilireth.freeserve.co.uk/rants.html

This is the rants page on the personal website of a woman called Stevy (a.k.a. Little Black Riding Hood). It contains brilliant, articulate rants on a variety of subjects, including "That other f-word", "The shortest rant yet" (has feminism gone too far?), "No-one on TV looks like me (except Dawn French)", "The Gender Gendarmes", "Babes in Gameland", and loads more. The analysis is spot on; one of the rare personal websites actually worth readin

theory.org.uk

Website Address: http://www.theory.org.uk

A site based in Leeds, connected to Leeds University Communicatons Studies course (or something like that). It's worth a look, particularly the "Resources: Role Models" section, which contains several interesting essays by students on topics such as men's magazines, advertising images, Manics fans, the Spice Girls, the film Mulan, and even the Teletubbies "(will they make you gay?)." Particularly useful for issues in gay identity and "queer theory."

Said It

Website Address: http://www.saidit.org

'Said It' is a Seattle based feminist web-zine (which used to be published on paper but is now on web only). It is updated roughly every two months, and contains interesting and well-written articles and essays on a variety of subjects. The zine has several sections such as 'media watch', a letters page, and 'activist alert' and also has a vast archive of previous issues. Like this site, they have an updates mailing list you can subscribe to.

Feminista!

Website Address: http://www.feminista.com/

Feminista! is an on-line feminist journal which is updated regularly with essays written by feminists from around the world. It is an excellent and interesting site, which seems to accept many shades of opinion and allows people to put forward their views without censorship or toning them down. The site has a huge archive of essays to browse through and also hosts a message board.

Bitch Magazine

Website Address: http://www.bitchmagazine.com/

This is the website of the American magazine Bitch which puts forward a 'feminist response to popular culture.' I love the sound of this magazine but have not found it for sale in the UK (please let me know if you know where it can be bought over here) so I have to make do with the small amount of articles posted online. The articles are really good, and discuss things such as the singledom phenonenon, magazines, films, publishing, and even includes (risky, this) a considered critique of that most hallowed British institution. No, not the Royal family: Harry Potter!
Update: since I last wrote this I have managed to get a copy of Bitch. Read my review

AMPnet

Website Address: http://www.ampnet.co.uk/

Is there anything Anne Marie Paine doesn't do? This London-based woman is a writer, cartoonist, small time publisher, entreprenuer, and website guru... this her website, AMPnet, based on her zine of the same name. The site has a lot of content, including interesting and humorous articles on anything and everything. Check it out.

Guerilla Girls

Website Address: http://www.guerillagirls.com/

This group of anonymous female artists, writers and performers call themselves "your cultural conscience", and are on a mission to point out the glaring inequalities in the entertainment world. They do this by using humour, mainly through posters that they encourage readers to print out and stick up as a form of protest. They point out statistics like: only 20% of roles for actors over 40 go to women, 94% of the Oscar Writing awards have gone to men, African-Americans get only 13.4% of acting jobs. There's more on their website.

About Face

Website Address: http://www.about-face.org/

This website, based in America, is dedicated to media literacy and campaigning against derogatory images of women in the media. Their website is very interesting and gives examples, both good and bad, of how companies use women in their advertisements. The site is also practical and shows what people can do to help. They also have stickers and badges featuring slogans like "Your Mind Never Goes Out of Fashion", "Quit Playing Barbie", and "Liposuction Sucks".
