Ms.

The most famous feminist magazine from the US gets reviewed by Catherine Redfern.

The American magazine Ms. is still the most famous feminist magazine and has been around, on and off, since 1971. For just under 100 pages worth of articles, reviews, letters, comment, poems, news and even art, it is well worth the price. The main shocker when you first buy this is reading a magazine without a single advertisement! That in itself is a liberating experience, but the content itself is often enlightening, entertaining, humorous, inspirational, but also colourful and well-presented for those of us used to the glossies. Inevitably, many of the issues it covers are focussed on the US, but it does cover feminist issues worldwide and many of the US issues apply elsewhere. So to be informed of what’s going on at the frontlines of feminism and to get a regular fix of unashamedly feminist comment and debate, Ms. is essential reading.
