Womynspace survives attempted eviction

An attempt to evict the womynspace in Hackney has failed. This is most likely only a temporary respite, and the organisers are looking for help – contact details on their blog, which carries this message:

THANKS TO EVERYONE’S SUPPORT AND COMMITMENT THE WOMINSPACE RESISTED A FIRST EVICTION ATTEMPT ON WEDNESDAY 17TH APRIL!

People of all genders showed their support outside the space where there was music, vegan food and fancy dress!… Email [email protected] to find out more and to help save the space!

Wominspace is a squatted social centre in which we work collectively to find ways to challenge capitalism, patriarchy, gender oppression and any other system of hierarchy affecting self-identified women and trans people.

For two months now, we’ve been holding welding, stencil-making, herbal skill-share, feminist singing workshops and a women’s direct action group. We’ve also held a DIY Womin’s Health weekend have been running a café and kids space, whilst trying to build a women’s space which is respectful to each individual’s autonomy and experience.
