Feminism in London 08 approaches…

Only a few short days until the first Feminism in London event takes place! The organisers sent us this message:


An exciting event will take place on Saturday, 11th October, 2008. It is called Feminism In London 08 and the theme is ‘The Power of Women.’ There will be talks, workshops and networking for women and pro-feminist men. What are the key issues for feminists today? Are they pornography, rape, sexual objectification of women, war? These are some of the issues which will be discussed at this event. The day will also feature some of many feminist activist groups who are campaigning in and around London.

Speakers include Cynthia Cockburn: author of From Where We Stand: War, Women’s Activism and Feminist Analysis

Rania Khan: Labour Councillor and Campaigner Against Lap Dancing Clubs In East London

Aw et Yohans from Forward UK

Helen Atkins from The Poppy Project

Commedienne Kate Smirthwaite will oversee the day’s activities.

All for just an admission charge of £3 waged or £1 unwaged and lunch is included. Excellent value for money!

The day begins at 10.00 am and concludes at 5.30 pm.

In the evening there will be a Comedy Night at The Penderel Oak (a Weatherspoons pub), High Holborn, featuring comediennes Kate Smurthwaite, Juliet Myers, Liz Carr, Rosie Wilby and Grainne Maguire. Time of show is 8.30 pm until midnight with doors open from 7.00pm. So come along for a drink or two and a chat before show begins. Venue also serves food. Admission charge is only £5 waged or £2 unwaged.
