Cocky.

This is an incredibly powerful piece by trans activist Julia Serano. In my opinion she makes it abundantly clear that no matter what your perspective on gender, no matter what theories you hold dear, nothing is more important than an individual’s right to safety, self definition, and respect for that definition.

The book’s fantastic, it really opened my eyes to so many new ideas and ways of thinking about sex and gender, as well as challenging certain transphobic attitudes I had assimilated growing up. I wish it could be put on the school curriculum!

Not overly impressed with the performance, but the actual message and the passion behind it makes me feel warm and gooey inside. And referring to her penis as “she” is too cute for words!

I’ve yet to read Whipping Girl (really want to!) but I practically devoured Kate Bornstein’s “Gender Outlaw” and highly recommend it to anyone interested in gender.
