Spread the feminist message from Trafalgar Square!

Antony Gormley on the Fourth Plinth from One & Other on Vimeo.

Angel of the North designer Antony Gormley is putting together a fantastic-sounding art project for the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Sqaure, entitled One and Other. Every day, 24 hours a day, for one hundred days, a different member of the public will be given an hour to stand on the plinth and do whatever they want (within the confines of the law, I assume, though maybe we’ll be given a special exception for art…). The project will be streamed live on the internet; see the video above for more info.

Sounds like a fantastic opportunity to get some feminist messages and images out there! Personally, I’d like to do something to challenge the way in which women’s bodies and beauty are portrayed, or use the hour to raise awareness of violence against women. What would you do?

You can register your interest in the project here.

I have applied to be involved with this actually, I thought a nice simple ‘this is what a feminist looks like’ t shirt would be a nice way to do it, then just take a laptop or a book or psp or something up…

This makes me really wish I lived in London.
