There’s a couple of really interesting events going on in Manchester this weekend. Saturday sees Lynn Breedlove bringing his “queer, punkrock standup comedy on transgender bodies, feminism, family, and community”, One Freak Show, to the Yard Theatre (7.30pm):
Breedlove rocks on as a no-op transsexual standup comic after 15 years as lead yeller of punk band Tribe8. Fronting the band, writing the highly acclaimed, Lambda Literary Award nominated urban novel, Godspeed, performing with the all woman spoken word troupe Sister Spit, and hosting San Francisco’s queer cabarets, the writer, performer and filmmaker has developed an onstage persona sharp as a new chainsaw blade, and an intimate, improvisational fluidity, making high-minded political concepts fun.
Tickets are £5 on the door, or available here.
And at the LGBT Centre on Sunday, there will be a workshop with Lynn (1pm-3pm), exploring trans identities, feminism and intimacy through writing and performance, followed by a series of film screenings (4pm-7pm) in collaboration with Manchester’s Queer Youth Network and Trans Youth Network.
