Claire Taylor named Wisden Cricketer of the Year

// 3 April 2009

The brilliant Claire Taylor, leading scorer in the England World Cup victory last month, has been named one of Wisden’s five cricketers of the year.

She’s the first woman in the award’s 120-year history to be given the accolade.

Well done to her and the rest of the England team.

I was (pleasantly) surprised when I read about this earlier today, because women’s cricket generally isn’t given much importance. Congratulations to her!

Awesome- congratulations to her.

Still miffed though that we have had a world cup winning English cricket side who have received only marginal attention. If this was the all male side we would still be hearing about it on a daily basis.

Good on them though- their victory was outstanding.

About time – or rather – way overdue.
