Boris Keep Your Promise

// 5 June 2009

Last night me and occasional F-Word guest blogger Charlotte Cooper headed to the launch of the Boris Keep Your Promise campaign, to keep the pressure on London mayor Boris Johnson to fulfill his campaign pledge to boost funding for the only remaining Rape Crisis centre in the capital and fund three additional centres.

We were entertained by comedians Josie Long (very funny) and Andrew O’Neill, and other acts (although we didn’t stay to the end). Project Caramel were particularly good…

The head of Croydon’s Rape Crisis centre told the full story of how Boris came to make his promise in the first place, and Fawcett North London, which is behind the campaign, got everyone writing letters to Boris – by hand no less.

Charlotte has posted her photos on Flickr.

The campaign is ongoing – find out how you can help here.

This is nothing to do with the matter in question or indeed about feminism at all, but re Andrew O’Neill I feel compelled to share this:

In which he masterfully reclaims the phrase, “I’m not being racist, but…” from racists. Genius.
