Can you spare a gift for women at Eaves?

// 1 December 2009

Eaves, the London-based charity that provides housing and support for vulnerable women, would appreciate any Christmas gift donations:

Over the festive season, Eaves will be supporting more than 100 vulnerable women who have been trafficked or otherwise affected by violence. Please consider purchasing a small gift or a gift voucher for these women. If you can’t… then please do the next best thing and spread the word among your friends and colleagues! Thank you!

Please send any gifts to:

Victoria Samuel

This is a brilliant venture, which I thoroughly support. But, I would also like to remind people from across the country that most regions have their own domestic violence shelters as well as many charities that offer support to vulnerable women. Most of these run similar schemes at Christmas to provide presents for the women and often children who use their services. You might want to (also) support a charity closer to home (and save on postage!). Information on local services and local charities can be found on Women’s Aid (England), Scottish Women’s Aid, Refuge and similar websites.

Does anyone know if Eaves would want children’s gifts as well? (I’m ashamed to say I have no idea if they provide accomodation for women with children). I have a selection of unwanted toys that I rather randomly received and would be happy to send them on.

Do you have any info on what would be the best gifts to send? I checked on the website but couldn’t find anything.

It would be nice to know if gift vouchers are the way forward or if there is anything specific that is needed (toiletries? clothes?)

Good point, Feminist Avatar.

They said they’re okay for children’s gifts (though I imagine other places would appreciate them). For the women, “either vouchers for places like Boots, M&S or WHSmith or small gifts from the same places like toiletry gift sets or fashion jewellery, diaries, notebooks etc”.
