Haiti earthquake, if you want to donate
Jess McCabe // 13 January 2010
Haiti has been hit by a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake, and thousands of people may be dead.
This is just a quick post to note Liberal Conspiracy has a list of disaster relief charities working in Haiti.
To add to this, Madre, which works direct with local women’s organisations, is asking for donations:
MADRE has activated an emergency response through our partner organization, Zamni Lasante Clinic. The doctors, nurses and community health workers there are working to get bring medical assistance and supplies to areas that have been hardest hit.
The most urgent needs right now are bandages, broad-spectrum antibiotics and other medical supplies, as well as water tablets to prevent cholera outbreaks. The need for food, shelter and other types of relief are growing by the hour.
Since its inception in March 2004, the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund has given concrete aid to Haiti’s grassroots democratic movement as they attempted to survive the brutal coup and to rebuild shattered development projects. We urge you to contribute generously, not only for this immediate crisis, but in order to support the long-run development of human rights, sustainable agriculture and economic justice in Haiti.
