Michelle Rodriguez on why her characters keep getting killed off

MRODRI~1.jpgActor Michelle Rodriguez has some theories on why she keeps getting cast in roles which see her killed off. Asked about this at a comics convention, she said:

Because I don’t take my clothes off, and I’m nobody’s girlfriend. The writers are new to the whole tough girl thing, and they don’t know what to do with [me]. We’ve got the dude who’s strong, so what do we do with the chick who’s strong? We kill her. Eventually they’ll get used to it, and maybe Salt will change a thing or two.

io9 say they liked her response so much they got her to repeat it on camera.

Photo is a publicity still from Avatar, a recent film in which Rodriguez’s character died onscreen – although that’s not it’s most problematic moment

i love what she says on the IDSM description about herself… that she doesnt want to be thought of sexually, yet there on the same page is her being described as a beauty, and pushed into 2 sexiest/hottest female lists… people are gonna think youre hot whether you like it or not, but i always think its sad when people dont respect youre opinion enough to not publish you in magazines under that title *sigh

Sadly, I don’t think salt will change anything. Did Ripley change anything? Sarah Conner? We never see these characters anymore unless Angelina Jolie is playing them.

Shame, because I love a female action hero.
