Clare Balding’s complaint to PCC upheld

// 17 September 2010

You might recall our scoop back in July about Clare Balding’s complaint to the PCC regarding AA Gill calling her a “dyke” in his Sunday Times column. The BBC is now reporting that her complaint has been upheld and the full PCC judgement must be printed in the newspaper this weekend.

Delighted at this turn of events. After enduring lots of irksome homophobic remarks from Pope-fans who are out in force online today this was a nice bit of news about fairness and proper critique.

I’m all for free speech but Asshat Gill deserves to be held up as an example or both poor journalism and as the small minded mental lightweight bigot he is.

Well done Clare Balding for sticking up for herself and tackling a bully.

my goodness, the PCC upholding a complaint! has hell frozen over? are pigs flying?

Good on Clare for standing up to Gill’s immature, juvenile bullying.

Excellent news. I’m delighted with this result.

I’m so glad about this. Will the editor get any comeback for the frankly vile letter he sent in response to Claire’s first letter of complaint? I’m still in shock that he thought that was an acceptable letter to send to someone!

I am very pleased at the result!!
