soapbox.jpgThis weekend, 25-26 September, the Edinburgh Anarcha-Feminist Kollektive and Ladyfest Edinburgh have teamed up to organise an action-packed event of participatory workshops, skill-sharing, book readings, zine stalls, food, art, music and more!

Saturday begins with a welcome session at 10:30am and workshops run throughout the day until 7:00pm.

The day will see a variety of workshops covering a broad range of discussion topics including an introduction to anarcha-feminism, feminist childrearing, men and feminism, feminism and mental health, feminist direct action and much more besides.

From 8:30pm in the evening, there is a line up of free entertainment to dance away the night. Local Edinburgh acts such as the polyphonic balkan choir Kuchke will perform, as well as the Glasgow-based riot grrl influenced Scragfight. There will also be video art, spoken word performances, and live stand up comedy.

Sunday starts with a bring & share brunch at the respectable hour of 11am.

The day will focus on skill sharing and invites people to join a collective art space, a herb study group, and an afternoon singing workshop. There will also be the opportunity to learn how to become a confident stand up comedian, or the history of zine making.

In addition to this there will be several discussion spaces focusing on issues such as international feminist campaigns, feminist approaches to body image, and women and poverty.

Feminist Soapbox is free, open to all, and kid friendly. There will be crash space provided if you need somewhere to stay. The event is taking place at the Forest Cafe, 3 Bristo Square, EH1 1EY.

I wish I was able to go to this, but alas, I have a horrible cough :(

I really want to know what the deal is with the feminist cardigan making!
