Tickets are on sale now for the annual Birds Eye View film festival, and they’ve put together a trailer (above).

Particular highlights this year look to include the segment on horror, Bloody Women, which includes a showing of horror shorts, a screening of Katheryn Bigelow’s 1987 horror flick Near Dark and a practical class in blood and gore prosthetic makeup.

More seriously, the film festival also includes a shorts programme put together with Oxfam specifically about women’s liberation around the world, among many other brilliant-looking documentaries, features and shorts.

The Birds Eye View festival shows work made by female film-makers.

Hello, this is Bidisha.

I wanted to add that I will be blogger in residence for the festival. I have received, with great joy, a bumper pack of preview DVDs from the brilliant BEV 2011 team, so over the next fortnight I’ll be watching as much as I can and posting up commentaries, reviews and features in the hope that anyone who loves film, from docs, features and shorts to debates and workshops about making your own work, will be enthused and inspired.

Best wishes and here’s to the glory of cinema – congratulations too to Rachel Millward, the festival’s founder.
