Sudanese woman sentenced to death by stoning
Laura // 1 June 2012
The Guardian reports today on the case of Intisar Sharif Abdallah, a young Sudanese woman who has been found guilty of adultery and sentenced to death by stoning.
As if the sentence itself wasn’t horror enough, she was found guilty based on testimony extracted from her after her brother reportedly beat her, she was tried without access to a lawyer or interpreter and she has a four-month-old baby and a number of other children. The baby is being detained with her.
The man she is accused of having an affair with has been released.
Amnesty are urging people to write to President Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir, asking him to save her life and overturn her sentence. Please take some time to help.
