Music paste up: Things we forgot to write about last year: Ladies and gentlemen, Ms Barbara Panther…

Barbara Panther.jpg

Barbara Panther, who describes her music as “modern electronic baroque music” was born in Rwanda. Her family moved to Belgium when she was three, and she and her siblings were adopted into seperate Belgium families. She now lives in Berlin.

Her music is restless in character, like some kind of agitated electro warrior roaming a post drum’n’bass landscape, and her debut album was released on City Slang last May.

The clip below, ‘Ghost Town Blues’ alas does not make an appearance on the album, though it is testement to her formidable powers as a live artist.

Shimmering but muscular single ‘Moonlightpeople’ is equally playful, but it’s on ‘Empire’ that Panther reveals the full extent of her rage.

The rage of ‘Empire’ contrasts with how Panther comes across in interviews, as this clip from 2008 shows. I’m sorry I missed this album last year, I will definitely be paying more attention this year.
